Five classic ballparks are like Shibe Park, Ebbets Field, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.
Shibe Park was in Philadelphia for nearly seventy years. It was opened in April 1909 and demolished in June 1976. During his time home of the Philadelphia Phillies (1927 and 1938 to 1970) and the Philadelphia Athletics (1909 to 1954). Shibe Park was the first steel and concrete stadium in the majors.
In 1953, Shibe Park was renamed Connie Mack Stadium. It hosted the All-Star Game in 1943 and 1952. The last match was played at Shibe Park / Connie Mack Stadium on 1 October 1970.
Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York, stayed for less than 47 years. During that short time became very famous.
Ebbets Field was the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. One of the best features of the park was the fact that and children can meet in the center-right door and watch the game in the gap in the door.
Historically, the field was important. Here are some data interesting Ebbets Field for all you sports fans.
Power on April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson became the first black to play baseball major league in the 20th century. In addition, the first was televised game at Ebbets Field on 26 August 1939, when the Dodgers played the Reds.
The last baseball game was played at Ebbets Field on 24 September 1957. Ebbets Field was demolished on 23 February 1960.
Yankee Stadium is the home of the New York Yankees York. Unlike Ebbets Field and Shibe Park, Yankee Stadium is still operational.
Going to Yankee Stadium is like taking a journey back through the history of baseball. After the left-center field wall are plaques and monuments to some of the great players who played in Yankee pinstripes. These are some of the greatest players in the history of MLB, including: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Thurmon Munson, and Yogi Berra.
Yankee Stadium was built in 1923. It closed in 1973 and then reopened in 1976. Over the years has undergone many renovations and additions.
Fenway Park is another ballpark still in use. Is the home of the Boston Red Sox. Fenway opened on 20 April 1912.
In addition to many great players pass through Fenway (Carlton Fisk, Ted Williams, etc), the best feature of the park is the green monster.
The Green Monster is a high green wall that is in left field. Is only just over 300 feet away. The porch is only a short distance, there is another wall, like in the majors.
Wrigley Field is home to the Cubs Chicago. It was opened on 23 April 1914, but the Cubs played their first game there until 1916.
Wrigley Field retained its historical character and not install lights in the ballpark until the end of 1980. The first official night game was played on 9 August 1988.
Some interesting sports trivia Wrigley Field is that the lights were initially set to be installed in 1941, but Wrigley donated to a local shipyard to assist in the effort to win World War II.
Wrigley Field is easy to identify because of the ivy vines that grow on the walls of the gardens. These vineyards were planted in 1937.
Throughout history Baseball has been many great classic ballparks. Five of the best are Shibe Park, Ebbets Field, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.
