For the most part, Bakugan toys don’t have different rarities like lots of other collectible toys. There are some early generation models that are hard to find because they have been discontinued. But in 2009 there was a special release tat changed the game.
The Gold Fear Ripper
This model was released in 2009 and only in Canada. Supposedly only about 250-350 of these were ever released making them one of the most sought after models in the entire toy line. This was not a molding mistake and this was not something we saw crop up again at a later time. It was an official release from Bakugan and it’s only gotten rarer since then. This was like Tycho releasing a special edition line of cheap RC cars that they didn’t tell anyone about but just put on the shelves never to be released again. Madness.
These Gold Fear Rippers are still going for about 130 dollars online and there are no plans to ever release them again. Even if they did, the first generation would be coveted by collectors and players alike.
Like with RC trucks, plastic models and other collectibles, this is not something to play with. These are for display only and taking them out of the packaging is not advised if you want it to stay as valuable as it is. Playing with it is absolutely out of the question. You wouldn’t buy cool RC cars and then go drive them outside, would you? Of course not. That would destroy their value and would open up the possibility for accidents and breakage. Playing with a Bakugan like this would be guaranteeing that it would be scratched, eventually broken and maybe even stolen if you are playing publicly. It’s nice to show off your rare treasure but it’s not worth destroying it. If you ever find yourself in possession of a Gold Fear Ripper please do us all a favor and leave it in the package. It’s to pretty to hurt and to rare to risk.
